One among many challenges facing Tanzania is unemployment
that is observed each year considering number of people seeking jobs and
complaints over unemployment with respect to youths in labor market.
Among all age categories of labor force, youths have the
highest unemployment rate. If, however one analyses the youth labor force
further, it is apparently that the nature and extent of the un employment
problem varies considerably across the education level and geographical
(urban-rural) divides of which dropout youths from rural areas are at maximum
risk of un employment and need rescue.
The causes of youth unemployment in Tanzania are diverse
hence, span the sluggish performance of Tanzania labor economy and therefore,
its inability to create employment opportunities for an estimate 500,000 unemployed youths who join the ‘reserve’ of unemployed labor force annually
(Mjema, 2009).
Apart from economy, youths (high) population growth, lack of
capital and lack of adequate training, have contributed to youths unemployment problem in Tanzania.
This goal aims to empower school dropout youths with vocational
skills through establishment of vocational training centers where they can be
equipped with skills and apply them in various economic activities for
self-reliance.
